So happy new year, all that good stuff. While I personally am not totally excited for 2009 in any real way, well, at least this way it probably won't disappoint me!
Mostly I am posting this for the benefit of people like
bazcat89 who, unlike me, may not have a plethora of Doctor Who fans on their flist who have already posted this: They're announcing Eleven tomorrow!
Which I guess means if you're placing any bets you should probably do that now. Personally I'm pulling for Billie Piper, because nothing says love like stealing someone's body.

Frick, I'm going to miss Donna. So, so much. She was my favorite companion, I have to admit. I liked that they were mates.

Date: 2009-01-04 05:51 pm (UTC)I love Donna D: D: She was probably my favourite too, though I ship Rose/Doctor like burning. i wanted Donna back but I'm not sure I want her back without Ten. She should definitely be in one of the specials next year, though. Preferrably the one where he regenerates, because Ten regenerating sans Rose, Martha or Donna is tragic.

Date: 2009-01-04 06:14 pm (UTC)Yes, I am a Rose/Doctor fan, but that's mainly because I watched that entire second season and just drooled. I also loved her with nine, though. Yep, just love them. Love that he 'didn't have to say it.' Love that she loved him as a man, where I think Martha loved the god-like figure.
And Donna just liked him. That was the best part. Their hilarious interactions and her determination to be seen as an equal, like in Pompey.
Sigh. I'm so sad she had her entire memory erased. And the image of him standing in the rain... I should make an avatar of that. (Makes me regret doing that to one of my characters in a story I wrote; now I understand what the readers were so mad about)

Date: 2009-01-05 04:31 am (UTC)I think the fact that no one was in love with anyone really put Donna and the Doctor on even ground, yeah. There were no girls in fireplaces or school nurses to worry about, just two BFFs on an intergalactic roadtrip. Awesome. Plus in general I like find friendships more interesting than relationships. Have you seen the deleted scene from the Doctor's Daughter? Such adorable Donna/Doctor BFFness, I wish they'd kept it. I'm such a sucker for BFF-bonding.
JOURNEY'S END WAS TRAGIC. Augh. I cried for Donna! I never cry for anyone on TV! D:

Yes, that's it exactly! They enjoyed each other, and I think where other companions may have had an emotional burden that was too large sometimes, Donna just needed to be shown that she really was awesome (I HATE her mother; and you know the Doctor hates her mother than anyone--shown in Journey's End).
And she was. She was so effing awesome that she didn't even notice the cybermen. She saved the Ood. And her name would be remembered forever. And her best friend had to let her go.
Oh, so tragic.
And wonderful. Good drama, BBC. Good drama.

Date: 2009-01-07 03:29 am (UTC)Basically it's just Donna being THE BEST PERSON EVER at the very end of Doctor's Daughter, after they've dropped off Martha, and I love it because you can never have too much Doctor/Donna bff-ing. She goes "how are you, Spaceman?" and when he doesn't answer she says something like "That pain you feel -- that doesn't mean you were wrong to let her in. It means you were right." There's a bit more, but yeah. idk I just love it. I think I "ship" friendships the way some people ship relationships.
I HATE HER MOTHER. And Martha's. Jackie Tyler needs to slap those bitches and tell them how it's done, honestly. "She's my daughter and I'll protect the both of them until the end of my life" > crushing your kid's self-esteem and/or selling them out to the alien Prime Minister.
BUT YES. Donna was the best. D: D: D: D: I hope Eleven's companion is totally kickass.
