the facts were these:

I have a midterm at 4 today that I probably should be studying for, and yet I cannot seem to work up the concern because it's Linguistics, it's multiple choice, and that course is just so dumb. So I guess it's time for a generic update? Initially I had typed "life update" but then I realized this won't actually have anything to do with my life, because my life has been exceedingly boring as of late. Um, tomorrow I'm going with Tania (and I think her parents?) to go see some play called Happy Days at the NAC. Her mom got free tickets or something and I am the beloved friend who gets to go, bahahaha. I... have no idea what it is about, but I am sure it will be fun and exciting and cultural anyway, lirl.
and, like, I kind of hate the entire cast. Except maybe Ianto and Tosh, though I love Ianto in the way you might love a really stupid puppy. Gwen kind of pisses me off with her "I am so ~human and caring~" spiel, and how apparently she's really awesome at her job (says Suzie the Corpse) and yet I have never seen any evidence of this, save her occasional bleeding heart speeches. Man I even hated Jack 99% of the time, enough that when Gwen punches him for making a very accurate statement about her status as a h00r, I was like OMFG YES! Even if, you know, the statement was very accurate, and Gwen is a h00r. Who drugs her boyfriend. Fail.
And just to be clear, what the fuck happened in the season finale, anyway? The rift opens because Asian Man in a Cravat wanted it to, and it unleashesthat thing from Satan Pit and it eats people with its shadow and so Jack ... is a buffet, and then he Care-Bear Stares the Devil to death? And then he dies for X number of days (I'm guessing 3, because that seems to be how long people are usually out before they're ressurected) and then GWEN KISSES HIM AND HE WAKES UP ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? *flails* Also, how come exploding the Devil made time conveniently reverse itself? Did Cravat Man just disappear into time or something? Was he an agent of the devil? Why is Rhys alive again? SO MANY QUESTIONS.
However, A+ for having the VOTE SAXON posters in the background. (Also, does that mean the Master was just like, laughing his ass of the entire time, in a sort of "wow I don't even need to take over this planet, they're fucking it up on their own" kind of way? If so: win.)
That said, for those of you not lucky enough to be on
afterthree's flist, I highly recommend this recap of Torchwood Season 1's Fail.
Also, the season premiere of Pushing Daisies reminded me why I love Pushing Daisies. If it does indeed get cancelled I will be sad, but not exceptionally surprised because, I mean, there's been about 10 seasons of Survivor and shows like Dog Eat Dog exist, so obviously North America in general does not have the most exceptional television taste. While watching Pushing Daisies I saw a commercial for the Americanized Life on Mars, and I can readily say based on the single episode I've seen of Life on Mars that the American one is made almost entirely of fail. Needs moar John Simm, tbh.
Evidently I don't have anything else to discuss, or at least nothing comes to mind. I know you're all in the throes of VP debates, and Canada's having an election too, but... yeah, no, nothing srs bsnss ever gets posted here. Sorry to disappoint, lirl.
Also, I'm very bored, so if you happen to be around, hijack and procrastinate with me, yeah?

Date: 2008-10-03 04:34 pm (UTC)Yes. THIS.
Someone MUST write me a fic that covers the season one Torchwood finale from the Master's POV. OH PRETTY PLEASE?!?!

Date: 2008-10-03 09:42 pm (UTC)I have to admit that would be an awesome fic.

Date: 2008-10-03 09:45 pm (UTC)lol, I've been told second season is a lot better, so maybe I'll warm up to it, and to be honest I'll probably watch season 3 regardless because I have so much love for Martha and Mickey, but so far I remain pretty unimpressed.

Date: 2008-10-03 09:46 pm (UTC)But yes, it does kind of remind me of Twilight, in that "I am totally just watching this because of the lulz" way. A few episodes are legitimately pretty good -- I liked the one with the plane from the 50s, and the one where Tosh and Jack end up stuck in the 40s was alright -- but most of the time I'm just like HAHAHAHA WEEVIL FIGHT CLUB? ARE YO KIDDING ME?
And yeah, the characters suck. A lot.

Date: 2008-10-03 11:12 pm (UTC)but um yeah idk, I waver between hating Owen and being amused by his snark. Mostly I'm o his side when he says something I'm thinking (like "STFU JACK" or "STFU GWEN") but against him when he is a dick to Tosh, because Tosh is the only one I like.
HAVE YOU READ THE THIGN I LINKED THOUGH, BECAUSE IT IS EPIC HILARITY

Date: 2008-10-03 11:02 pm (UTC)1. I loooove Pushing Daisies. It is so beautifully made, so colorful... and there is pie (I love pie) and there are kisses through plastic wrap and there is synchronized swimming, and girls named Chuck and there are pop up books and there is Olive Snook (I love Olive Snook) and oh... I could go on and on. That show makes my heart sing a happy happy song. Sometimes I think I might love Pushing Daises more than Doctor Who... because Doctor Who breaks my heart and stomps it into the ground whereas Pushing Daises heals my heart and makes me believe in true love... but then I stop and really think about which I love more...and the Doctor wins, as usual.
2. I've watched both seasons of Torchwood... and I disliked them both. I tried to like them... I really really tried, but it just didn't happen. I mainly tried to love Torchwood because I wanted to love Jack... but the truth is I'm never going to love Jack. I think he's sort of dirty and his teeth are far too white (scary). The only reason that show is any good at all (and there are a few shining moments) is because of Ianto... and maybe slightly because of Owen. And yes... I think the Master (I squeeled a little when I saw the Saxon posters in the background) was probably laughing his ass off the whole time he was on Earth. That's probably why he didn't even bother trying to off them. ... because they are all entirely useless, especially Gwen and her 'big' whorey heart. I also thought the whole Satan Pit monster remake was total crap... umm puhleaze it was already done... and done WAY better by the Doctor.
3. Geez, I just wrote you a book. It looks like I am as bored as you are.

Date: 2008-10-03 11:21 pm (UTC)Doctor Who on the other hand is my flaily, fanficcy, icon-y obsession fandom. So I definitely love them in different ways. But Pushing Daisies is fantastic and I don't get how anyone can NOT like it. It's so neat and kitschy and funny and Ned/Chuck is ADORABLE and... yeah.
2. OMFG I DON'T LOVE JACK EITHER. He's okay in Doctor Who, but honestly I think he was best in Doctor Dances/Empty Child than he ever was ever again. Con man Jack > "hero" Jack. Mostly because he fails pretty hard at being a hero. I kept facepalming at everything he did on Torchwood. The Doctor would definitely not approve.
That's probably why he didn't even bother trying to off them. ... because they are all entirely useless, especially Gwen and her 'big' whorey heart. LOL SO TRUE. He knows he is way too bamf for any of them to even attempt to do anything to stop him, so they might as well live to see their own hideous destruction.
Turns out dude who wrote the finale is the dude who wrote '42', as well. So pretty much he really liked Satan Pit, then. lol
3. No problem! Books are good!

I stand by my initial judgement that it needs moar John Simm.

Date: 2008-10-05 02:34 am (UTC)I saw the first episode of the American version of Life on Mars, too. It was laughably bad. I spent way too much time laughing at the main guy's *serious business* face... I wish they'd recast him, but I guess they're recasting Gene and Annie.

Date: 2008-10-05 02:52 am (UTC)I still kind of hate Gwen and Jack though. Hmf.
Wait are they recasting them mid-broadcast? Or they already recast them from their original plan?
I've only seen the first episode of the British one, and already I can tell the American one fails.
