good things never come to those who wait too long

My grandma and her twin sister are visiting, and they and my mom will not stop talking about food/calories/losing weight and it is driving me insane. Oh my God. I even made an "OMFG WHY?" face at my dad as I went up the stairs this morning, hahaha. I mean, they're family and I love them, but it's kind of like having three of my mom in one house, and it's kind of driving me nuts, and they've only been here a day. They leave next... Saturday? AHHHH.

(Fun fact! For the first eighteen years of my life we didn't talk to my paternal grandparents, so I was explaining this to a friend once, how I only really "have" one grandma, and then I mentioned that my maternal grandmother has a twin sister, and the friend went "But if she's a twin then you have two!" Hahaha OH EMILY, TOO BAD YOU SUCK. /bitterness)

Tomorrow we're driving south of the 49th parallel to go shopping. It will be fun, though I kind of wish I was going with my friends and not... my dad and three of my mom. LIRL But I don't even care, I am so desperaet to get out of this country, even if it is for like five hours and we go to upstate New York. I have not gone ANYWHERE this summer. I have wanderlust like nobody's business. Oh, worldly travellers of my flist, I stare at you in envy! Envyyy!

Before this degenerates into a whine about money, I am going to do some memes. BECAUSE YOU ALL CARE SO MUCH, RIGHT?

Would you do meth if it were legalized?
Um, no. Man I barely even drink.

Are you for or against abortion?
In most scenarios I think it's probably not the best option to choose, but I'm all for women having that option.

Would our country (United States) fall with a woman president?
Okay for one the US is not my country and we've had a female Prime Minister, but no, I do not think a woman president would be ZOMG the death of liberty or, um, whatever. I don't know enough of American politics to make a fair comment on Hillary, but I certainly don't think a female president would be a bad thing.

Do you believe in the death penalty?
Not really. It doesn't do what it's supposed to -- deter -- so it just seems sort of ...spiteful in the worst possible way.

Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
No. But I'm apparently the only teenager in the world who doesn't smoke, so y'know, whatever.

Do you believe in God?
No. I am a born skeptic, so this idea really doesn't click with me, but more power to you if you want to be religious. lulz when I was little I used to look at the clouds and wonder why the fuck I couldn't see angels hanging out up there. Apparently I imagined heaven was a lot like those Philedelphia Cream Cheese commericals.

Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Yep! Rock on, Canada. Rock on. SPEAKING OF HOW MUCH CANADA ROCKS, the WBC, the crazies who wanted to protest at Heath Ledger's funeral, the ones of "GOD HATES FAGS" fame? They wanted to come up here to picket at the funeral of the man who was killed on the Greyhound bus in Winnipeg, and the border was told not to let them through. Hahahaha suck it, WBC.

A twelve year old girl has a baby...should she keep it?
No, I'd rather it be put up for adoption. (Abortion, I don't know -- I think that alone would be traumatic enough for a twelve year old, even disregarding the whole baby's life dilemma. I just noticed this says "had a baby", so she already had it, in whcih case NO SHE SHOULD NOT, ADOPTION FTW. So many people want children and can't have them.)

Should the alcohol age be lowered to 18?
Well it's 19 in Ontario and you can't smoke until you're 19 here either, so I think that's logical enough. However, this survey is Very American, so I will say this: 21 is just a fucking stupid drinking age, I'm sorry. WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO FOOL, AMERICA?

Assisted suicide is illegal...do you agree with this ruling?
Yes.

Do you believe in spanking your children?
No. I was never spanked and so I guess the entire concept just seems off to me. It's not even that I think it's "abuse" or whatever -- I just think it's kind of dumb.

Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
WOULD I EVER!! And to be honest I would even if it was a Canadian flag. ilu, Canada, but a million dollars? I WILL BUY SO MANY FLAGS TO MAKE UP FOR IT. Plus I know it's very symbolic and in general I don't support flag abuse, but it is just some fabric.

A mother is declared innocent after murdering her 5 children in a temporary insanity case. Do you agree?
If she has a serious mental condition she should be hospitalized, not jailed. <-- what liz said. <-- this. And in any case the "temporary insanity" thing is one I have mixed opinions on.

Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
No. I don't really think there's anything inflammatory in here anyway, so whatev.

Hurrah, now you know all about my various social and political opinions! Kind of. Except [livejournal.com profile] harmonyjam_07 tagged me for this shipping meme, and so any illusion of me as an intellectual that the previous meme may hae created will now be shattered. As if any of my answers were intellectual anyway.

1. List your top seven character ships
2. Put all of them in order of your love for them; 7 to 1, 1 being your main fixation.
3. Name the movie/show that they're in.
4. Supply photos for said people.
There is no 5 because I'm not tagging people.

7 - Barney/Robin - (How I Met Your Mother)

So ... Barney is the only reaosn I kept watching this show beyond the first episode or two, and he's basically awesome. Anyhow, Barney and Robin are clearly kind of awesome, because she suits up for him and they can play laser tag and just generally be epic. I am not entirely sure if I would want this to go beyond the sort of subtle (well, until the s3 finale) "they'd be awesome but neither of them wants the commitment" thing they've got going on right now, because Barney is awesome because he's such a douche, but... y'know, whatever, I needed a 7th ship, okay?

6 - Jordan/Dr Cox - (Scrubs)

It would be a lie to pretend I ship these two in the sense that most people mean "ship", but truthfully with a few exceptions I'm not really much of a shipper. Anyway, I love Scrubs and it needed representation, and I don't give a crap about JD/Elliot or Turk/Carla, but Jordan/Dr Cox is just this amazing combination of snark and wit and I love them both. They look deceptively friendly in the picture above but it's the only one I could find. Rest assured that they can and will destroy you, which is what I love about them. Behold:

5 - Ned/Chuck - (Pushing Daisies)

These two are just cute and they warm even my cold, cynical heart. For those who don't watch the show, the general gist is that they can't touch because it'll kill her (and I am too lazy to explain why), but they are obviously stupidly enamored with each other. Hence the kissing porcelain owls pictured above. Anyway, these two make abstinence way cuter than Edward and Bella could ever dream of.

4 - Dwight/Angela - (The Office)

I don't see why I need to explain this one. If you don't like Dwight/Angela you obviously suck, because they are epic and worthy only of each other. Andy and his ABBA can gtfo.

I couldn't find an appropriate clip-only for the two of them, but this hits basically every Dwight/Angela clip in season 4, plus it plays Shot Through the Heart, lirl.

3 - Jim/Pam - (The Office)

These two are awesome and they win the award for being the first television couple I gave a shit about. Hurrah! The slightly strange thing is as much as I like the idea of them being happy and whatever, I think the show in general was a lot more interesting during the seasons when they weren't together. Uh, oops. But still, they are adorable.

2 - Lily/James - (Harry Potter)

That's right, I just used the fanart everyone in the world has seen by [livejournal.com profile] buttfacemakani, mostly because i was too lazy to go find something else and figure out crediting and blah blah. Anyway, these two were my primary interest for ages and the only reason they aren't in top spot is because I've been neglecting them for the past, I don't know, year or so, but I still have quite a soft spot for them. Their live-fast-die-young messiah baby plotline is just epic, and I love that there's so much freedom because there's so much we don't know. It's much more fun to work with, in my opinion, as far as fanfic and all that goes. I haven't written them in ages but their characters -- or, I guess, my versions of their characters -- are so firmly embedded in my brain, as is their relationship, that writing them is stupidly easy to me. It makes me sad that after DH so many people decided this ship sucked, because... whatever, it's awesome. *waves UR banner proudly*

Unfortunately there is no video of them because those don't exist.

1 - Doctor/Rose - (Doctor Who)

Okay so if this surprised you, you're probably kind of an idiot, given that these two are plastered all over my lj/profile/icons/everywhere, ever and I keep posting fic about them. I don't know, I am a dirty new!Who fan who fawns over David Tennant and ships Doctor/Rose hard and has scarcely seen any of the original series and blah blah, I am not ashamed. They have the worst luck and they fluctuate between giggly twelve-year-old best friends to mega!angst all the time and apparently that's everything I like in a ship. I love that they got a bittersweet ending -- even though I am pretty convinced Rose and human!Ten will be having a blast in no time -- because it's such a bittersweet ship and judging from my top two on here I like tragic ends, or something. Anyway, I'm not sure what it is with these two -- be it Nine or Ten, I don't care -- but they reduce me to a girly mess the way most ships/chick flicks/movies don't. And now an OBSCENELY LONG VIDEO SPAM!

Okay so the ship meme took FOREVER, so I'm done here. Enjoy the videos/graphics/whatev.

Peronsally, DH made me hate Snape more (paradoxically?), so it reaffirmed my Lily/James obsession. HOORAY! Glad they made it.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-08-11 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohh I would never just abandon them. They were so near and dear for so long! Haha.

I don't hate Snape, but I find his loving-lily plotline more comically pathetic than I find it sweet.

Whoo, Doctor/Rose vidspam *laughs*

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-08-11 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I blame Youtube's video suggestions. I was only going to put one, but... obviously that didn't last. Then eventually I had three and figured Nine needed some love, too.

[identity profile] la-petite-singe.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay Dwangela! They're so wonderful. The finale was outstanding; I was literally almost crying at "well, it's my fault" and then...eee! :D And of course Jam. Someday they're gonna need to double-date. (And "Casino Night" will never, ever fail to make me cry.)

And yes, PD FTW! That show could have been so dopey, and it turned out so wonderful. I can't wait for it to come back.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-08-11 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Dwangela s awesome, hahaha, I love them. OH THE ~DRAMA~. But yeah, they're fantastic. I love that scene with Dwight and his recorder, playing Shot Throuhg the Heart, hahahaha.

It's true! Pushing Daises could've been SO lame, but it's actually so clever and quirky. I'm excited for it to come back, too.

[identity profile] lady-ceky.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
OK SO I LIKE ALL YOUR SHIPS.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-08-11 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
AWESOME, CLEARLY WE WIN AT ... LIKING FICTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

[identity profile] lady-ceky.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
YES INDEED WE DO.

BESIDES. FICTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS ARE THE BEST. THEY DON'T HURT WHEN THEY GO WRONG

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-08-11 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
EXACTLY

well possibly they can, I always end up rooting for the canon pairing but I imagine like, Harmony shippers would disagree with you there.

[identity profile] lady-ceky.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
well. yes, but Harmony shippers... i don't know where i was going there.

i always ship canon too. mostly...

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-08-11 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
hahahaha.

I dunno why but yeah, I'm always a canon shipper, as evident from.. the seven I just listed. It's not even like I do it because I intend to, it just ends up that the canon ship works for me so I figure there's no point in trying to force one that wouldn't happen or whatever. I AM EASILY PLEASED.

[identity profile] lady-ceky.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
AS AM I. I tend to pick minor canon though. Like James/Lily, or Quil/Claire

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-08-11 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I've noticed that I do that for books but not television shows. Books I'm all like WHOO YEAH LILY/JAMES because with books I'm more interested in minor characters because there's just so much to explore, and oftentimes I don't like the main characters. With television it's different because if I don't like the main characters, wtf, I'm not going to watch the show, so I end up shipping the "big" canon pairings like Jim/Pam or Doctor/Rose.

[identity profile] lady-ceky.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah I get what you mean. Like if you hate Ned/Chuck you aren't going to like the show at all...

[identity profile] latine.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
WHOA. So much Doctor Who. Those are way too many hints for me.

BUT THIS POST IS EVIDENCE OF THE CONTRARY

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-08-12 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
HDU

I AM COLD AND HEARTLESS, DO NOT CONTRADICT ME. my vague affinity for fictional relationships only highlights how little I expect of real ones! OR... something idk, SILENCE KELLY, DO NOT TAKE MY BITCHINESS FROM ME, IT IS A TRADEMARK.

[identity profile] edenerade.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 12:18 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-08-12 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Can you imagine if Esme was like, secretly a GIANT BITCH? like she just smacktalks everyone as soon as they leave the room, and edward just ignores it or something. it would be awesome.

DEFINITELY. I wish I still had a Scrubs icon.

[identity profile] edenerade.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
that would be in a world where twilight was a good book lololol.

My mom,Aunt and Grandma are like that too about losing weight and etc. It's annoying. It makes me want to walk out the room.

[identity profile] kousuke-blade.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently I imagined heaven was a lot like those Philedelphia Cream Cheese commericals.

Haha. I was the exact same way! XD Now I'm a skeptic as well, but it's always fun to look back on our child selves and go lawl.

As for the drinking age in America, I'm not sure I get it either but! They did move it down to 18 once and the car accident rate went waaay up so they pushed it back to 21. LOL. Shows us.

I shall now go AWWW!

Barney and Robin - AWW. Like srsly, these two are just...adorable. I mean, not in the Marshmallow and Lilypad kind of way. Barney and Robin are each other's wing man and it's awesome.

Ned and Chuck - AWWWW. Even more 'awws' for them because they are so cute that I usually can't handle it. I mean, srsly.

James and Lily - AWWWWWWWWWWES. They get it epicly because they're my favourite. 8D

Doctor and Rose - AWWWWWW. They defy the odds and are awesome and OMG THEY ROCK.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-08-14 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
My dad basically hand-crafted me into a skeptic by lying to me constnatly. I don't mean it malevolently, it's just he's the sort of person who tells random white lies or makes up stories to see what people believe (it's like Big Fish only not as cool), and as a result I question everything, whcih he says was his ultimate goal anyway. (Though I remember being 6 or 7 and not believing him when he told me beanbag chairs existed, LIRL.)

Haha that's so sad. We do fine with it at 19 here. If anything I feel like an old drinking age just makes it so much more "exotic" and therefore inticing.

Marshall and Lily are weird, because by all means I should hate them -- I hate couples like that in real life -- but they're entertaining so I like them. It was Ted/Robin I couldn't stand, because I knew it wasn't going to work out and I was just like UGHHH STOP IT ALREADY.

Ned and Chuck are so cute. It's stupid how cute they are.

I have neglected James/Lily for so long. I feel almost guilty, which is stupid. But they definitely rule.

[identity profile] kousuke-blade.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I was raised in a religious household but it wasn't anything that took over our lives. As I got older and began to develop my own thoughts, I just stopped with that sort of stuff and I've been a skeptic ever since. I'm more of the person who just sort of lives and doesn't worry about higher powers or what's going to happen next. -shrugs-

Beanbag chairs? xD

I'm sixteen so I really have no inclination towards alcohol right now. I mean, sure, it's exciting because it's 'off-limit's but I have no real hankering and eagerness to reach 21 for the alcohol.

Yeah, the problem with Ted and Robin is that we were told it wouldn't work out in pilot episode and so we sat there watching them dance around each other, knowing that they'd be split up in the end. -le sigh- Marshall and Lily are kind of cute in that sickening way but they also amuse me so all is well.

It really is! I watch Ned and Chuck and am rather dumbfounded. It's ridiculous. They can't touch and they still manage to be cuter than like every couple in the history of ever.

Oh, don't feel guilty. I neglected the whole Harry Potter fandom for the longest time before my love suddenly resurged. As long as they're always there in the heart. Because they just rule that much.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-08-14 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I was raised in a distinctly apathetic household -- we celebrate Christmas and Easter and all that, but they've always been more about Santa and bunnies than Jesus, and we never go to church, and once I got old enough, yeah, I realized I didn't buy into the whole deal anyway I'm a very see-it-to-believe-it type, and that applies to all sort sof things -- ghosts and ouija boards and big foot and everything included.

I'm not much of a drinker either, but it's nice to be legal. (I'm not, yet, I'm 18, but Quebec has a drinkinage fo 18 and it's like, half an hour away.) It's just nice to be able to get into plaes like bars and casinos and stuff and not worry about it/be restricted.

Exactly! I just wanted them to get over it already.

[identity profile] rose-dawson.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
HDU not include Ryan/Kelly on this list?!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2008-08-14 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I AM SORRY MY FRIEND. They're probably tied with Barney/Robin, or possibly Cox/Jordan.

[identity profile] haleatheart.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
wow 3 mums thats something you dont hear everday :P
I liked your top 2 ships basically because i dont watch the others but they are good!
