fic exchange rec & a fandom meme

I still lack updates of any kind, though I did finish my fic for UR.org's Christmas fic exchange. Naturally it's still i posting and secrecy mode so I cannot link you to any fic of mine that may or may not be posted yet, but that's where I've been. Well, that and exams. I also have one tomorrow. I should study, yes? But it's philosophy and philosophy is stupid because a) even when you know it, you don't do really well and b) even when you don't know it you don't do really poorly. Or, well, that's been my experience, anyway. Huzzah for circular definitions and post hoc fallacy and blah blah...

Yeah, I'm enthused.

Also! The fic someone wrote for me was posted, so it is my duty to rec it here. Yay.

Title: The Final Stage
Rating: PG-13
Summary: 12 Grimmauld Place is nobody's idea of the perfect place for a party. Yet that is where Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Nymphadora Tonks find themselves spending the fourteenth anniversary of Voldemort's defeat. Overwhelmed by memories of that Halloween night, the three just want to drink brandy and forget.

It is basically exactly what I was going for, which is impressive since I am apparently incapable of writing a half-decent prompt. Yay, mystery author! (Yeah, no, I actually don't know who it was. Mysterrryyy. *waves fingers spookily*)

As another means of procrastination, here's a random meme! Yay! I don't know. Um, go wild. (Give me other ways to procrastinate!)

Pick a fictional character from a fandom I know and I'll answer the following questions to the best of my abilities.

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

[identity profile] latine.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I say.. Pocahontas and Jacob Black. Oh, yes, I am evil.

What was your prompt, exactly? I haven't read it yet but I like to see how the author uses the prompt as a base to write the whole thing.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2007-12-17 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
My prompt was just Halloween of 1994 with Remus, Sirius and (some amount) of Tonks. I know, not that creative.

Omfg POCAHONTAS? I haven't even seen that movie in like fifty years, but okay.

POCAHONTAS:

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

I think she was pretty cool. She could talk to animals and shit man, she KNEW THE LAND.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Um she's the titular character, you guess.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

Uh, I don't remember. I can't really relate because I'm an evil pale face though. Sry Pocahontas. I don't think she ever gripped me TOO emotionally because if she did I would remember that movie better.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

I am not familiar with it at all. Silly Sharon.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

rofl. POCAHONTAS/JOHN SMITH FTW? I don't even know who else she could possibly be paired with. Also, did John Smith leave her in the end? Anyone remember? Man what an asshole.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

Naw she's cool.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

Like I said I am an evil pale face so I would probably accidentally give her a white man disease and kill her, or something. But other than that I would totally hang out with her animal friends, animals are cool.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Um, she's not on any of my lists at all.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

lirl I'd be like "well she's kind of the point of the film what are you doing here if you don't like her are you just here for the Miko/Percy slash?"

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

I'd imagine she probably is!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2007-12-17 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
JACOB!

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

In Twilight he didn't interest me, though I instantly thought "wow he is going to like Bella and shit is going to go down". In New Moon I liked him, but I wanted him to slap Bella silly for being such an emo bitch. In Eclipse I didn't like him as much as New Moon, because he was all... assholey, but he was hilarious and he's still better than Edward.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

UM YA HES PART OF THE LOVE TRIANGLE OF DOOM!

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

No one in Twilight gripped me emotionally. And.. no, I wouldn't say I can really relate to him. I'm not a werewolf or a guy or Native American (OMG JACOB/POCAHONTAS FTW) or even in unrequited love with anyone.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

The Twilight fandom is made of 50% fail, 40% lulz and 10% competence. I like the lulz? And I stalk the lj comms for said lulz.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

I think Bella should choose Jacob (LOL PRO-LIFE?!?!) but on the other hand she's a dumbass so her and Edward can be dumbasses together. I think if Meyer wants her novels to hvae ANY KIND OF OVERALL THEME AT ALL, though, she should go with Jacob/Bella. But she won't. I know. Also I think Jacob/Leah would totally happen for the hot unrequited angsty sex, and I wish there was more Jacob/Edward in the world just for the hilarity.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

Like I said, he was kind of a dick in Eclipse, but whatevs. Also, I don't really like Meyer's werewolf mythology -- it's more Hulk!wolf than anything, and I am so used to the normal myth, or at least Rowling's myth. And he would ditch that Bella bitch and go imprint on someone wicked-cool.

Except imprinting is made of fail.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

I think we could be friends. At least I hope so, I am so much better than Bella, hahahaha. He seems like a COOL DUDE and he's funny so I'd like him. Funny people ftw.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

He's high up for the Twilight series, but not high up overall.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

Probably, in the sense that I'd be like "yeah he's totally better than Edward, ftw". But he was hyped up for me before I read the books and as a resultI was kind of underwhelmed.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Sorta. He has his fans but then there's the screaming Edward fangirls who are like OMG HE IS AN EVIL RAPIS I LUV VAMPIRES OMGOMGOMG.

Okay baby. Give me some...

Damn, I have to pick one! Argh. Let's go with obscure (canon obscure, not fanon obscure)... Andromeda!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2007-12-18 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I'm afraid Sharon wins the Obscure Prize with Pocahontas. *dies*

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you
dislike the character.

Andromeda's all right. I love all the Blacks, so she counts, but I would've liked to see her do more in canon than just be concerned about her daughter for 2.5 seconds and then lose everyone she cares about ever. LIRL She was colder than I had previously anticipated, or at least seemed like it, but it was Black-y and so whatevs.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Not really at all. Sry Andromeda.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

I cannot relate to her too well because I'm not having an illicit relationship that my family won't approve of nor have I lost, like, everyone I've ever cared about ever. ...Thankfully. I guess in theory she's pretty emotionally gripping, but in canon not really because we don't see her reaction to any of the shit that happens.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

FTW. Though I only deal with UR.org and thereby avoid all the crazies.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

Andromeda/Ted, man, I am a total canon whore. But the Sirius-Andromeda dynamic interests me too. Well, the entire Black family dynamic interests me, so that includes Andromeda and her sisters, too. Particularly post-war with Naricssa. Though I am stubbornly sure they wouldn't become BFF after.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

She could've.. done more... and been less... boring... in canon. I know she was worried about her daughter, blah blah, but it was boring, dude! lirl. I thought she was going to be more of a maternal antithesis of a Black but then she ... wasn't.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

I doubt we'd be friends or even be the slightest bit concerned with each other. She seems all... reserved and wealthy and whatevs (as a kid, anyway) and I'd be like, rolling in my own filth, so yeah, no.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Nope. Sry. She's okay but I'm not a huge fan or anything.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

No. She does basically nothing in canon. I might point out my unending love for the Blacks and by extension Andromeda, though.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Errr, not really, but she has her niche.

[identity profile] lady-ceky.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh... Monica from friends. Because everyone knows who she is and yet the Friends fandom is stangley small...
XD

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2007-12-18 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you
dislike the character.

Monica's... hm. Sometimes she irritates me, but in general I prefer her to Rachel (though I prefer Phoebe to both of them) so I guess I am pretty neutral. I don't like the constant fat jokes, okay, we get it, you were fat, stfu, but at times her neurosis is pretty funny, yeah.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Um yeah def.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

She doesn't really grip me emotionally, no. And I can't say that I really relate to her. apparently i can relate to no one. LIRL

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

I have no idea wtf the Friends fandom is like, to be honest.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

I guess Monica/Chandler is fine, even though Chandler is way cooler than Monica. I don't remember any of her other boyfriends and nothing else makes sense. (lirl, Monica/Joey?) I'm not really intrigued by her relationship with any character, no.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

The fat jokes. THE FAT JOKES. They make me die inside.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

I don't think we'd be fast friends. We'd probably get along okay but that is about all.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Nope. Even within the series I prefer Chandler, Phoebe and Joey. (Although Monica beats Rachel, and definitely beats Ross. Damn I hate Ross.)

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

No, I don't care about her.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

I have no idea. /LIRL/

[identity profile] lady-ceky.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
that is a really good summation of her I think. I agree with most of those points but she doesnt annoy me so much. But yeah I'm not a part of the fandom either

[identity profile] sweetcherrytree.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
lirl I love Chandler so much.

[identity profile] emerald-caprice.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I LOVE ROSS!!! Honestly, he is what makes the show bearable for me.

Although I think the overall problem with that show is that over the years, the characters all became complete caricatures of their former selves. They started out with fairly believable personalities (for a sitcom, at least), but over the years, the writers began to deliberately exaggerate their quirks to such an intense degree that it just wasn't funny anymore. (Like the constant fat jokes.)

Anyway, I just totally over-analyzed a show I don't even like that much. Ha.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2007-12-19 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
I liked Ross at the start, but by the end of the series he annoyed me -- the whole caricature thing, I guess. I see what you mean. I was never a vehement Friends fangirl; I liked it and I think it's funny but I'm not very invested in it or anything. I do agree with you, though.

[identity profile] emerald-caprice.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
I am going to do two from The Office because I miss it and am jonesin' for a new episode. First, Dwight because, well, he's Dwight. And second, Toby because Toby needs some love.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2007-12-19 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I miss the Office too. Booooo =(

Dwight! YES

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

Dwight is fantastic. FANTASTIC. Nothing more needs to be said.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Dwight and Jim interacting basically makes the show, so yes. Yes he is.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

Lol I guess in some ways I've been the weird kid before, though never to the extent that Dwight is. Um, I love Harry Potter? (Dwight + DH = amazing!) I do feel pretty bad for him with the recent Angela/Andy development. :(

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

I don't know much about it but it makes good icons and they seem like a pretty clever lot.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

DWANGELA = OTP. That is the keyword for the icon I am using. Oh Dwangela is love. Lovelovelovelove. Jam is cute and all but WTF DWANGELA FTW! And I also quite love the Dwight-Jim dynamic, the Michael-Dwight dynamic, and... shit I love Dwight-Everyone.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

Uhm, not really. He is pretty hilarious as is, I think.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

I doubt we would be BFF because Dwight isn't really BFF with anyone. I would probably think he was weirdly fascinating and it would kind of be like Pam-Dwight interaction only when Pam is not conspiring to prank him in some way.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Um yeah def. I need my "all I want for Christmas is Dwight Schrute" icon on lj.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

Yes. I would banter on and on about how Dwight is my hero and he is so amazing and hilarious and they would be annoyed with me forever.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Yes. I don't think you could like the Office if you hated Dwight.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2007-12-19 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

Toby is so pathetic and sweet. I kind of want to give him a hug or something. He's nothing remarkable but his whole life is so hilariously sad, lirl.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

Kinda not really, not more than the other average office workers anyway.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

Haha aw yeah I think everyone can relate the tiniest bit to Toby at some point. And yes! Like I said, I want to give Toby a hug most of the time.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

Again, I don't know the Office fandom well, but they seem like smart people and they make good icons.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

Um, no, not really. I love Jam too much to support Toby/Pam and I can't fathom who else he'd be paired with. I do enjoy watching the Michael-Toby interactions though. They are simultaneously hilarious and infuriation. Poor, poor Toby. LIRL

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

I kind of want him to stand up for himself, but that would take away from the general innocent sweetness thing. Haha. Omfg, Toby laughing at the bit about Ryan in the diary = ftw.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

I think we'd probably be friends, but not super-close friends because we're both too shy. But Toby is awesome.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

Naw, but I do like him.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

I wouldn't, no, but I do say stuff like OMFG BEST SHOW EVER and I LOVE EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER so I guess he falls under that category.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Haha, no, Toby is pretty under-loved everywhere. Poor man.
