That's true. He probably has some SUPERIOR TIME LORD IMMUNE SYSTEM to defend him from whatever kind of gross things one might pick up from coffee stains that are several months old. Initially I planned to have a bit of the coffe left and have him drink it, but I couldn't justify the coffee not having evaporated. And I think that might be even more disgusting, I'm not sure.
I know, that bothers me. Especially post-s3 Martha, whose head is screwed on straighter than Ten's.
I think that's part of it, the altruistic Doctory part, but I think the more -- dare I say it -- human part is just that he no longer really believes it's better to love and lose than not to love. I don't know if it was totally intentional, but I find the contrast of him telling Martha "there's always something to live for" with him basically telling Jackson he doesn't have anything to live for to be really interesting. We haven't seen him go blatantly kamikaze like he was in season 3, but I think mentally he's even worse off now than he was then.
